Every soul must taste death. This taste, however undesirable, is a dire reality that is often forgotten. As a result, the resources available for the Muslim community when they are faced with death are very minimal. To make matters worse, the easy availability of secular and non-religious support at the time of sickness and death makes the need for Muslim support seem unnecessary. This, however, is not what is required of Muslims when dealing with sickness or death. As Muslims, ensuring that the sick are tended to and that upon death they receive a swift burial is our communal religious obligation. The Serve Muslims Funeral Support project aims to fill this void in our community. This project will provide Muslims with a complete resource portal for everything related to sickness and death. In addition to the listings of all the funeral centers in Ontario, along with the proper burial and funeral procedures for Muslims, this project also includes a Muslim Will option. This easy-to-use and completely Shariah-compliant Will can be accessed here. This Will is designed with the Western Muslim in mind and can be stored (as per national requirements) in the Serve Muslims database at a small additional cost. All proceeds from the Will project go towards the Dar-ul-Akhir fund.
The Dar-ul-Akhir fund was established to counteract the high costs of funerals in Ontario, with the average Muslim funeral costing approximately $4000. This project’s immediate goals are to help underprivileged Muslim families with their burial costs by subsidizing the cost of the funerals.
With the most modest estimates of Muslims in the GTA being over 350,000, the need for a Muslim graveyard is indeed a vital one.
